SGT 1st Class Ronald Eugene Deakin, USA, Ret.December 27, 1941 ~ December 18, 2017 (age 75)
Sgt. 1st Class Ronald E. Deakin, USA, Ret., age 75, of Lampasas, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel in Copperas Cove. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at noon at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be on Thursday, Jan. 4th from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
Ron was born on December 27, 1941, in Pekin, Illinois to the late Arthur Deakin and Vera Knaak Deakin. He married Norma J. Wrench on January 15, 1963, in Tumwater, Washington. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. His service included the Vietnam War and several posts including Korea, Germany, Ft. Hood and many others. Ron and Bunny’s Army travels took their family all over the world, ending in Copperas Cove, TX where he retired. He worked at Cove Lawnmower Shop and then they became fulltime RVer’s. He was a loving and caring father to four children. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to build and fly radio-controlled airplanes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harold and Terry; his wife, Bunny in 2015 and his daughter-in-law, Paula Deakin in 2017.
He is survived by his daughters, Ronda and husband, Bobby Ellis of Zachary, LA, Dorena and husband, Mike Akin of Bullard, TX, Cathy and husband, Shane Knighton of Fullerton, CA; son, Gregory Deakin of Kempner, TX ; grandchildren, Kristin, Stacy, Nicole, Scott, Kyle, Randy, Cassandra, R.J., Cassidy, Alex and Gracelyn; great-grandchildren, Michael, Katelyn, Amber, Tyrin and Brooklyn.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the Staff of Rollins Brook Wound Care, his home health care nurses- Carol and Ponice, Visiting Angels and New Century Hospice for their compassionate care and love shown to Ron.
